Brian Whitmore

Brian Whitmore joined Prestatyn in 1997 and became 1st X1 Captain in 2000 and 2001.

When he relinquished the captaincy, not for Brian the relative easy life in the second team, no, he devoted his cricketing time to our newly formed 3rd team.

His ability and experience made him an ideal mentor for the young players entrusted to him. He could control a game without the lads realising it, with his unorthodox left handed batting and his effective medium paced bowling, used as needed, Brian was the clubs saviour at that time, he took on a job that no one else wanted, was successful and set a standard for others to follow.

Yes, we at Prestatyn were very fortunate when our path crossed with that of the Whitmore Family. They had moved into the area and Brian was looking for a club, luckily, he chose us.

The whole family soon became a large part of the Club life and we know will remain so for many years to come.

We have lost a good friend and a never to be forgotten member of the Prestatyn Cricket Club “family”.

Brian sadly passed away aged 52 years old on Bank Holiday Monday in May 2007 while his son Adam was playing at Aigburth against Liverpool and took the news of his fathers death on the field of play. His untimely death, spurred Morne Williams and his team on to an impressive victory and to this day Morne believes Brian helped the 1st XI to that win.

To that end we now have a Brian Whitmore Player of the Month award in Brian's Memory.
