The Cricket Committee which consists of: Mike Williams, (PCC CHAIR who oversees final team selections) Barrie Horton, Tony Young, Dave Harris, Andy Taylor and Danny Davies meet twice a week to look at senior and junior player availability for the weekends matches, but more importantly the stats of those players who are involved in senior cricket, as to performances in previous games.
Junior coaches also liaise with the cricket committee to let them know who is performing well at Junior level in the 13-15 age group, and any players (again based on performance) are ready for senior cricket opportunities.
In April/May and in holiday time like Easter/Whitsun the availability of older senior players is limited, so the Cricket Committee see it as an ideal opportunity to see what some junior players can do, and use this time as developmental.
The Cricket Committee would like to thank these juniors and their reliability and eagerness to play will be noted.
The availabiility of senior players fluctuates over the season and the cricket committee will bring in, talented juniors to play senior cricket, but the committee want to make it clear that when juniors are brought in for 1 or 2 games, this does not make them an automatic choice for future games. The club MUST and WILL put out the strongest teams at 1st and 2nd XI team level.. the 3rd XI is a little different and is more developmental, but still a high standard is required before juniors are eligible to play for the 3rds. Juniors will be mentored by older and more experienced 3rd XI players so they can learn about senior cricket, and get some decent stats before being considered for 2nd XI cricket. The 3rd team is there to feed the 2nd XI and the 2nd XI to feed the 1st XI, thus ensuring the club have in the future the strongest 1st XI out on the field.
Junior Coaches now say there is fierce competition for places. Juniors must now expect to be rotated and sit out some games as the u15 squad is big. Club policy is that regional N E Wales and Wales players will play every week as part of the clubs talented player policy.
Junior Coaches are aware that players will be disappointed at being left out for some games, but again fixtures will be looked at and a squad rotation policy will be used so everyone will play at some point. However in some games the strongest team selections will be made in order to try and achieve a winning outcome.
We hope this clarifies the senior and junior selection process more clearly.
